Mentorship

Mentored by COEP Tech

During its formative years, IIIT Pune was mentored by COEP Technological University (formerly College of Engineering Pune) — one of the oldest and most prestigious engineering colleges in Asia.

COEP Technological University (formerly College of Engineering Pune or COEP) served as the official academic mentor for IIIT Pune. Established in 1854, it is the third oldest engineering college in Asia. Recognised for its rigorous academic standards and deep industrial ties, COEP has shaped generations of engineers, visionaries, and leaders.

The mentorship was instrumental in IIIT Pune's initial years. The first batches of IIIT Pune conducted their academic classes on the historic COEP campus in Pune while the permanent campus infrastructure was being developed. Senior administrators and faculty members from COEP, including former Director Dr. B. B. Ahuja who served as Mentor Director, provided guidance on academic regulations, curriculum design, and laboratory setup.
